Five Things I’ve Learned During my Internship at Loftus Bradford

Having an opportunity to do an internship at a top company sets the foundation for your career path and makes you grow in so many ways, both professionally and personally. During my internship at Loftus Bradford, I have learned some valuable lessons that I would like to share.


1. Stand out from the crowd

One of the very first things I learned was to find out what I can do to make myself stand out. Working at Loftus Bradford helped me understand what companies are looking for as well as who qualifies as a good candidate and adds value to the company. It is important to develop your skills and gain the required experience that puts you in the high-potential candidate bucket.

 

2. Manage expectations

Managing expectations is very important but often very neglected. Working with senior consultants at Loftus Bradford I learned how to manage expectations for us as a business, the candidates who are our customers and the clients who are our stakeholders. It is important to deliver what you promise and not to overpromise and underdeliver. Always be true to your word and in case you are not able to do that, due to unexpected circumstances, you have to manage expectations and make sure that you do not let somebody down.

 

3. Do your best and don’t be afraid to take risks

Always give more than what is asked of you. Everybody should strive to achieve a hundred percent. But if you can, I would suggest going that extra mile too. If I hadn’t given more than what I was assigned, I wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity to work closely with Paul or other senior consultants more often.

 

Don’t be afraid to take risks. It might turn out good or bad. If it turns out good, that’s great for both you and the company. If it doesn’t, it’s still good for you because you learn not to make the same mistake again. Devote to success even if the path is filled with failures. The road to success is not often filled with successes, but you cross the failures and get to what you want to achieve.

 

4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Never be afraid to ask for help if you have any questions or doubts. Also, make sure to offer help whenever and wherever you can. You are only as good as your ability to help your team. When you help, people often come back and help you too.

 

5. Diversity in the workspace always brings valuable insights

One of Loftus Bradford’s most important core values is diversity. Every generation grows up differently and is influenced by the world it grew up in. It is important that we learn from each other as much as we can. When we come together we can achieve great things, help each other grow and give each other the push that we need at the right time.
